Many of you know that I have been very involved in raising awareness of a disease I have called Ankylosing Spondylitis.
In 2010 I embarked on a year long daily creation of a small piece of art and called the project, “Art Apple A Day“. With each daily piece of 2D art posted, I spoke about the disease, my experiences, and thoughts about how the disease was so difficult to diagnose let alone navigate care. My archived site with the project can be found here.
For many in the Spondylitis community I’m the “lady who did all the apples” and later went on to found a non-profit called Walk AS One. Although I stepped down from the organization last year to pursue my art full time, it will forever be close to my heart and I will always support fundraising efforts for them when I can. Starting this year I’m going to create 31 new apples in October (known as apple month here in New England) and donate $15-40 per apple sold to Walk AS One! (price and donation amount will be set and disclosed) Each apple will be only $35 – 100 and include shipping worldwide! Also, during October I will also donate 20% of my profits from items sold on my website to Walk AS One so maybe stock up for Christmas early!!! This year’s bushel of apples will be ready for picking on October 1st and in support of World Arthritis Day on October 12th so make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter and follow me on Facebook or “like” me on my art page on Facebook or Instagram to be notified when the apples are posted.
Moving Forward With Apples For A.S.
Next year it will be 10 years since I created the 365 apples for A.S. Awareness and I plan to re-blog them (Starting 10 years to the day – October 1st, 2020) with my reflections and new insights and an occasional new apple! I will also create 31 new apples each October to benefit Walk AS One and find other ways to raise money for the other Spondylitis Organizations worldwide.
I believe in art for good and using my talent to help this community I so love!
